The California Public Records Act ("PRA") is intended to give the public access to information in possession of public agencies. The PRA provides that access to information concerning the conduct of the people's business is a fundamental and necessary right of every person in this state; that public records must be open to public inspection during regular business hours; and that every citizen has the right to inspect any public record except as otherwise provided in the PRA.
The UCLA Records & Resource Management Operations Office handles all PRA requests for the UCLA campus and the UCLA Health System.
When a PRA request is made to UCLA (including the UCLA Health System), the UCLA Records & Resource Management Operations Office must determine within ten (10) days whether it can comply with the request and must promptly notify the party making the request of its decision and reasoning. If possible, the UCLA Records & Resource Management Operations Office will provide those records deemed subject to disclosure at the time such determination is made. If immediate disclosure is not possible, the UCLA Records & Resource Management Operations Office must provide an estimate of the date that the records will be available.
Should you receive a PRA request, please promptly forward a copy of the request to the UCLA Records & Resource Management Operations Office, so that it may respond to the request in a timely manner and consult with counsel, as necessary.
